#19. Schiffer Brothers 1874

H. Schiffer and Company was one of the first businesses in Del Norte.  Tragedy struck on July 7, 1877, when fire destroyed the building.  They quickly rebuilt.  Lee Kayser bought out the Schiffers by 1890.  By 1925 John and Byron Shaffer were running a drug store and soda fountain, with Doveton and Mathew Clothing taking over the east side.  By 1934, Sechrist’s Variety and Nira Clemmons’ Flower shops were located here.  The building has had two other variety stores here, and is now owned by Mettja Swift of Banner Day Studio
