#20. Kiel Building
630 GRAND AVENUE
In 1881, Henry Kiel purchased the lot and built the present building using locally quarried volcanic stone. The building was a saloon, tenpin bowling alley, and a mineral bathhouse until 1925 when the Rio Grande State Bank was located here until the Great Depression. The Del Norte Exchange was located here as a joint venture by the town government and local businesses to provide services for check cashing
Several businesses, including Heller and then Sherman Grocery, C & E Carpet, Joe Clarke’s legal office, Kate Anderson Veterinarian Office, and then Weiscamp Real Estate have been located here.
