#23. The Mineral Well

GRAND AVENUE AND COLUMBIA

The need for water for firefighting caused the town to hire Sam Hoine to drill water in the center of Grand Avenue.  At a depth of 125 feet mineral water was found.  Stones for the well house were shaped by the prisoners at the Canon City Prison and shipped to Del Norte where it was assembled and stood in the middle of Grand Avenue.  By 1935, it was relocated in the middle of Columbia Avenue where it stands today.
