#5. Frank Case Home

390 SPRUCE STREET

This House was started as a two-room adobe structure with a stone foundation in 1881 by Frank Case.  As the family grew, more rooms were added.  The room on the right was added for a sewing room for Mrs. Case who was a seamstress and wanted a separate room for her business and clients.  The wooden addition on the back was put on years later.  At one time, the garden in the back had stones that were said to have been from the Presbyterian College of the Southwest.

Frank Case was born in 1844 in Indiana and Ida Case was born in 1858 in Iowa.  They came to Del Norte in the early 1870s where Frank worked as a hauler, prospector, was a partner in a livery stable, and served as a constable for the town of Del Norte.
